Electrochemists working on nanoscale electrochemical interfaces came together in Amsterdam to share recent findings and explore new collaboration opportunities. The ANION Symposium was the first edition organized by the Advanced Netherlands Institute of Nanoelectrochemistry (ANION), with AMOLF and UvA as co-organizers. The symposium took place on Friday, October 31.

Around 80 researchers with backgrounds in various disciplines gathered at Amsterdam Science Park. Co-organizer of the event, AMOLF group leader Esther Alarcón Lladó, said: “It is exciting to see this community come together under the ANION umbrella. There is a lot to be gained”

During the event, AMOLF group leader Huib Bakker gave a keynote presentation on probing water orientation at charged interfaces and on how the nature of ions influences interfacial water structure.

In addition, AMOLF researcher Daphne Antony, part of the Sustainable Energy Materials theme, contributed to the symposium with a talk on interactions in chemical reactions.

Lunch and the poster session were held at AMOLF, providing an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas with peers.

Marc Koper, ANION Scientific Director and professor at Leiden University, concluded: “It was a wonderful first annual ANION symposium, full of great presentations and science, exciting future opportunities, and good vibes.”
