Nienke Reitsma not only has great scientific ideas; she also presents them very well! At the Soft Robotics for Healthcare Network (SoRoH) conference, Nienke received the ‘Best Oral Presentation Prize’ for a talk highlighting her contribution to the Holland Hybrid Heart project.

Nienke presented her work on the LIMO Soft Robotic Ventricle and showed how she was able to improve the durability of the total artificial heart prototype with relatively few modifications to the design and production.

Nienke’s audience consisted of a mixed group of people: clinicians, patients, and researchers. “Having all three groups in one room was a great benefit and it definitely improved the discussions after the talk,” says Nienke.

Last year, Nienke participated in the Scientific Storytelling workshop given by Marloes ten Kate and David Redekker. As shown by Nienke’s success, they did a great job!

Nienke is a PhD student in AMOLF’s Soft Robotic Matter group led by Bas Overvelde.
