On May 7th, AMOLF NanoLab hosted an Operator Day for fellow operators from the four NanoLabNL locations in the Netherlands. In the afternoon, groups from Groningen, Delft, Eindhoven, and Enschede arrived to meet their colleagues and share experiences. The program included a mix of lectures, discussions, and lab tours.  

One of the guests was Annerie Heesink from the MESA+ Project Office at the University of Twente. She noted that the Amsterdam NanoLab is able to make optimum use of a relatively small amount of space. She also remarked: “The fact that Amsterdam operators are confronted with underground vibrations caused by nearby traffic – which can disrupt measurements – is quite striking.”  

Isabelle Palstra organized the event on behalf of AMOLF. She looked back on a very successful NanoLabNL Operator Day. “The ability of NanoLabNL to provide a full-service, open-access infrastructure for R&D in nanotechnology has certainly been strengthened,” said Isabelle. 

At the end of the afternoon, participants alternated between tours of the AMOLF labs and viewing posters while enjoying snacks and drinks. The day concluded with a delicious dinner at Restaurant Polder on the Amsterdam Science Park.
